Fun little fact: during World War One, attacks with mustard gas were pretty difficult to survive, and not every soldier had the luxury of owning a gas mask. To make sure less people died of too much mustard during lunch, soldiers soaked pieces of cloth in urine to use as masks. The smell was a bit pissy, but it was a lot better than dying by an overdose of mustard. Of course, this has nothing to do with Intel Pack4DreamHack or Sweden. It does, however, have everything to do (in a way, not really) with the free game every Packer will receive this winter edition!
Thanks to the Dutch game developer M2H Game Studio, every Packer that joins us this Winter edition will receive a free Steam code for the game Verdun! Verdun is a squad-based multiplayer FPS set in World War One, and is inspired by the infamous battle of Verdun in 1916. The game is still in Beta, but already offers a solid, authentic gaming experience. Verdun features historically accurate features such as authentic WW1 weaponry, uniforms and historically accurate maps. Battle in two game modes: the classic game mode Rifle Deathmatch, and the unique Frontlines game mode, where players take on different tactical objectives, operating in squads and making use of the iconic trenches of the First World War.
Every Packer will receive a Steam code in their mailbox before we set off for DreamHack, but we also have some copies to give away to some lucky readers! All you have to do to compete, is leave a comment below this post and we’ll pick the winners from there. Don’t forget to like & share this post on Facebook, it might increase your chance to win a copy!
Bonus Fact: after the First World War ended, the Australians decided to wage their own war with their sworn enemies, the emus. This was known as The Great Emu War, showing everyone how creative Australians can be. After countless complaints of farmers saying emus were ravaging their crops, the government decided it was enough and declared war to the emus, sending three soldiers armed with machineguns to duke it out. After hundreds of casualties among the emus and thousands of bullets fired, the emus still managed to win the war (mostly), showing the Australian government not to mess with overgrown chickens.
