We saw eSports blood flow plentifully on day two at DreamHack Summer 2013. Casualties left and right as play went deep into the night. In the end we found only Harstem left to proceed in the tournament where uThermal, Darkomicron, PoYo, Ret and DaBoo all fell in group stage 2 of the StarCraft 2 tournament. Here’s your recap of the carnage and mayhem that took place.
Darkomicron saved his honor by at least taking a round off viPro. The Canadian Huk forfeited the last match because both players were out regardless, leaving him with a 1-2 score in group. uThermal on the other hand left his group without taking a single map. Though surely not the result he was hoping for, it was somewhat to be expected seeming he had an extremely difficult group with HyuN and WesternWolves teammates StarNaN and Daisy.
PoYo on the other hand did disappoint a little bit. Though of course there’s no shame for him in losing in the second group phase. He however had a very favorable group featuring relatively weaker players, which gave a lot of us hope for another progression.
Ret met with 2 other Zergs in group phase 2. A matchup that in HotS can be as unpleasant to play as it is to watch. Lady Luck did not favor the player from Team Liquid at DreamHack, leading to him exiting the tournament with only a single map win in the second group phase.
There’s not that much to say about DaBoo. He had a group in which with some luck he could’ve edged out GoOdy or Snute for second place, but it wasn’t meant to be. He wasn’t able to come through as the dark horse, but did take down Harpner with a clean 2-0, which certainly must’ve felt rewarding.
As said, Harstem made it through group phase 2 and 3, successfully surviving day two of DreamHack Summer 2013. Unfortunately in the first round of the bracket, he was knocked out by SjoW. SjoW recently returning to professional Starcraft 2 has shown he really has come to play. Really going above and beyond in this tournament. Harstem is playing for WCS points versus Tefel as we speak and is tied 1-1.
This means that the Dutch esports side is practically done for us Intel Pack4DreamHackers and all that remains is to sit back, relax and watch the remaining matches. There are still a lot of awesome players left in the tournament as the bracket looks insanely stacked with talent. We hope you enjoy the action as much as we will!
