We’re getting ready for day 2 to really start rolling here at DreamHack Summer 2013. But what a night we had last night. In case you’re just catching up, here are the big surprises so far.

David cleansweeps Goliath

Local Swedish Cammy player Popi bested the huge favorite Infiltration to win the Street Fighter 4 tournament. Standing EVO champ and Capcom 25th anniversary tournament winner Infiltration was back at DreamHack to defend the title that hasn’t been contested since he beat Ryan Hart in the DreamHack Winter finals. Where everyone was expecting another clash between these two fighting game legends to decide the tournament, Popi had other plans. Popi had an amazing showing and took down both.

The King is dead, long live the King?

Another Untouchable in their respective scene is the CSGO squad of Ninjas in Pyjamas. Collecting titles like a child hordes candy during Halloween, NiP was considered by many unbeatable. There was a lot of question who could bridge the gap and challenge them. Western Wolves sought to answer that question. An unprecedented crushing 16-2 defeat is the reason the first team that was here warming up today is NiP. Whether NiP just tripped on their way to another title remains to be seen as they’re not out of it yet. But there are things we can be sure of: the first shots have been fired and their reign will be put to the test here at DreamHack Summer.

The Dutchies

Additionally some news regarding the Dutch presence here at DreamHack. Ret claimed second place in a group he was expected to survive and indeed qualified for the second group phase. Unfortunately the LowLandLions League of Legends team fell just one game short of qualifying for the group phase with a heartbreaking loss.

Be sure to check back for this evenings recap as day 2 at DreamHack will most certainly offer some epic clashes. Personally this kind of action is what I jumped on the Intel Pack4DreamHack bus for!

The second group stages for StarCraft II were also released. uThermal, Darkomicron and DaBoO,  are going to face difficult opponents in their groups, while Harstem, Ret and PoYo have good chances to go on to the brackets. More on this later!
