Last night showcased the conclusion of the second group round for StarCraft 2. This is the round where the first big name casualties occur. One of these big names that fell short of their reputation is SortOf. SortOf had a tough group with Scarlett, Harstem and Cytoplasm. As his former manager, it was sad to see him out this early.
As we mentioned yesterday, HyuN or HuK were going to fall in this group round, which was already assuming PengWin didn’t pull off two upsets. HuK ended up drawing the short end of the stick here, and HyuN progressed into group round three.
FireCake, known for having one of the longest matches in competitive StarCraft 2 history, failed to record a single map win in his group. Not having seen his games leaves one to wonder what happened to his usual resilience. Thorzain managed to just cling on, losing to Zanster in the first round, but then winning the rematch in the second place match to progress.
The Team Dignitas player Tefel, whom we haven’t heard of much in recent days, didn’t record a win either. mYinsanity player Serral surprisingly knocked down team mate StarDust and Go0dy, leading to Go0dys early exit out of this tournament.
White-Ra faced a tough group including Dutch player uThermal and Snute, and was unable to capitalize on his infamous special tactics. Meanwhile Dutchman Jona couldn’t edge out MaNa. This means uThermal, Sjaak and Harstem are the StarCraft 2 players to watch if you’re hoping for a Dutch miracle at DreamHack.
On the Street Fighter 4 front, the tournament has already concluded. Dutchmen Emersion, MBR and Prey failed, unfortunately, to make a dent; making this DreamHack perhaps the worst ever in LowLandLions history result-wise.
Ryan Hart was unable to elongate his recent title winning streak, only reaching top 12. The miracle hometown hero Popi managed to make another good showing this DreamHack, finishing fourth in the competition.
In the end it was Infiltration reclaiming the DreamHack crown. This now puts him at four DreamHack titles in his career, rivaled only by Ryan Hart who also holds four.
On the CS:GO front there was one massive bit of news. Fnatic is down and out early! SK gaming sent them packing in a thriller of a match. In DotA2, Fnatic also found themselves expelled prematurely, where mouz took them down. They say there’s no such thing as ‘bad publicity’, but Fnatic must be looking to go big at the Swedish championship ESM, and for their StarCraft 2 players to put up results in the main tournament to salvage the event.
