DreamHack. One of the biggest events of the year in terms of e-sports. Over 9.000 gamers gather in these massive halls to play and watch games like Counter Strike, League of Legends, and Starcraft II. Most of the people sitting around me have a passion for some game or another, and random cheers as ‘their’ player wins aren’t unheard of.
It seems like every match is being broadcasted and in total there are seventeen streams for people around the globe to watch their favorite game being played by top-notch players. With prize pools in the tournaments ranging from ‘only’ 30.000 SEK (3.000 Euros) to more than 400.000 SEK (40.000 Euros), all the matches are high-stakes and all the players do their best to earn that prestige, and the money.
DreamHack is a wonderland for even the non competitive gamer. There are huge halls with people playing games, stands from big hardware producers and several YouTube celebrities roam the hall looking for fun stuff to film.
Even if only the quite dedicated of us gamers make the journey to Sweden, in Jönköping it seems that people from all over town come towards the halls to see acts like Dead by April and Euro-Dance DJ E-Type. The general atmosphere and decoration of the whole event is cheerful, optimistic, and extremely energetic. It seems you can’t escape the music wherever you go.
Having the pleasure of going to Jönköping with Pack4DreamHack is one of the coolest opportunities that can be presented to an enthusiastic gamer, and even the long bus trip is totally worth it. Meeting with pro gamers, dressing up in bunny suits, wearing massive pajamas or just repeatedly chant "Hallo!" on the top of your lungs, nothing is weird at Dreamhack.
