#Blog – Jeroen’s First Time

Published on November 12th, 2011

There must be a first time for everything, or so they say. I can’t quite agree with that one, because there are things that I wouldn’t do, but November is a month where I’m doing a lot of new things. Finding the right English words reminds me that this is my first English blog post ever. It’s also my first blog for the Intel Pack4DreamHack website. But most importantly: this will be my first DreamHack ever. Yup, n00b alert! Last but not least it’s the first time I’m opening a blog with nonsense about ‘first times’. We call such nonsense ‘kletspraat’ in the Netherlands. Ah, almost forgot: my first time I’m going to teach some Dutch to our international readers.

So, it’s going to be my first DreamHack. I’m a bit ashamed about that actually. I’m always attending CampZone and The-Party, but I’ve skipped all bus trips to Sweden. I do have a few reasons for that, though. Most important: I don’t like sitting in a bus that long. I can imagine that sitting in a bus for twenty hours could give me a ‘houten kont’, which means that you should be quite alright with standing for a while after those twenty hours because of a sore ass.

The second important reason is my snow phobia. When I was a little boy, I was planning to throw some snowballs to my brother. I already made the snowballs and I went looking for my brother. That’s right: I hadn’t seen him yet and sadly he wasn’t even home at that hour… I slipped and I fell on my arm, after which I went crying to my mother. She actually became pissed off at me and demanded that I cleaned my room instead of crying like a sad, little puppy (everybody loves puppies). So I did. My mother regretted her outburst immediately after the doctor said I had a broken arm (but my room was amazingly clean, no toys could be spotted!). My arm is fixed, but the damage is done; I don’t like snow anymore and I’m always extra careful when those white pieces of terror, ‘witte stukjes ongeluk’ in Dutch, fall from the sky. The weather forecasts for Sweden doesn’t look to good for me and I’m not looking forward to the snowy weather to be honest.

And yet I’m very excited to travel to Jönköping to attend DreamHack this year! I always hear a lot of positive stories and I can’t wait to tell some of my own. So please, help me by telling me your experiences with the snow and the long traveling. Is it really that bad, or am I worrying too much? Did you get a houten kont in the past, or was everything just fine? Leave a reply on my blog post. You can also reply if you would like to drink a nice softdrink (which reminds me: what’s up with that ‘no alcohol’ policy?) with me during the event!

I’ve been to Dreamhack in 2004 and 2007, have seen some snow at times, but unlike holland, sweden is good at getting it out of the way 😀

I hope to visit Dreamhack at least once more, but i’d want to go there partly by ferry, less of a sore ass and loads of sleep before you get to dreamhack 😉

Are you going with anyone Jeroen?
I’m attending Dreamhack with my best friend, and thus the bustrip and such I will spend along with him playing videogames on the DS or on a laptop. It won’t help our wooden asses, but atleast it’ll be alot more enjoyable. (Or so I think, this is actually my first time too.)

Asfar as snow goes, just find your balance. Do some karatekid excersises, strap on some high-profile shoes and walk like the wind.
