Most people that know DreamHack nowadays don’t really know it’s original history. It has become a huge gaming and e-sports event with major competitions, thousands of gamers playing their favorite game and events (and stands) for all your gaming needs. Few new DreamHackers know how it all started.
DreamHack originated in 1994 due to the interest and love for coding and creating something with computers. Originally called DreamHack Scene, hundreds of people would come together at DreamHack and create amazing art with their computers. Either music, demos (those 16/32/64KB files with amazing graphics), graphics or photos: they did it all.
Through the years, gaming and e-sports became another important aspect of DreamHack. DreamHack Scene became a bit smaller, eventually renaming themselves as DreamHack Kreativ. But DreamHack hasn’t forgotten their roots and this Winter edition there will be at least 8 different competitions in the Kreativ scene, totalling a prize pool of 25000 SEK.
The announced competitions currently are:
Demo – 4000 SEK
Stop Motion – 6000 SEK
WiLD/Animation – 4000 SEK
Freestyle Photo – 2500 SEK
Freestyle GFX – 2500 SEK
Oldschool GFX – 1000 SEK
Prerendered Music – 4000 SEK
Tracked Music – 1000 SEK
Also, all winners will receive a ticket to DreamHack Summer 2013!
Check out the archives of DreamHack Kreativ to see who won last Summer’s competitions. If you are interested in one of the competitions, you can read more about their meaning and the rules for submission over at the rules page of DreamHack Kreativ.
