He told me during the Winter 2011 coverage that he was planning another blog, but he didn’t write it. So I told him he didn’t need to worry and that he could be the first to write a blog in 2012. “Sure!”… Unfortunately, Rob is a bit lazy at the moment, so I’ve decided to write the first 2012 blog after all. My blogs will also teach you a bit of Dutch! We say ‘luiwammes’ to a lazy guy like Rob.

Hi, my name is Jeroen and last Winter was my first Intel Pack4DreamHack ever. Back then I wrote about how snowy weather could make me worry a bit, but there wasn’t any snow at all! The thing that made me worry most was the fact that I had to make a lot of preparations myself. Normally Stefan would help me a bit, but he fell from his motor cycle one day, which resulted into a broken back. Poor guy, but he’s alright now, once again driving his motor cycle through all kinds of dirt roads (which translates as ‘modderweggetjes’ in Dutch). Since I am so awesome (in our country we say that Jeroen is geniaal and geweldig), everything went alright and no one got left behind in Sweden. This Summer and Winter I have to make sure of that again, but I guess that won’t be a problem.

O, and I’m really looking forward to it actually. Our own event, The-Party, was a month ago. Glenn from PG Rental came up with the idea to try to ‘Dreamhackize’ The-Party a bit by fixing a live act named SquarElectric. SquarElectric is a VJ/drummer combi and they managed to organize an unforgettable evening. I think it was the best The-Party event ever and the cool people I was hanging out with made me look forward to more! I’m not saying you can compare The-Party and DreamHack, but for me both events kind of have the same vibe. We Dutchies like to say that it’s very ‘gezellig’, that everyone is having a good time. I’m so glad I start to like the indoor LAN festivals more and more, because my love for gaming events was fully targeted to outdoor event CampZone at first. A Summer vacation of eleven days with all kinds of gamers, it sounds as awesome as it is and it’s still my favourite event of them all, but DreamHack and The-Party are also very high on my list now.

To start this Summer, I will attend Rock Im Park in Germany to see fantastic bands like Tenacious D, Marilyn Manson and Metallica. I have to say that it sucks that Motörhead and Linkin Park play at the same time though, I still need to decide which of those I want to see more. …Anyway, after this musical goodness I’m glad to say that it will only be another two or three weeks until our bus trip starts. I hope to see a bus full of interesting people again and I’m sure I will. So tot dan!

I think I enjoy the part most where you say, “in our country we say that Jeroen is geniaal and geweldig”. I never knew that! It’s fitting though! What a fun read 😀 Too bad I’ll miss out on CampZone and DH Summer though :(
